The new unit will function under a dedicated Senior House Officer and 03 HO's who will provide rabies post exposure treatment as a "one stop shop" where wound toilet, administration of Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) and Rabies Vaccines will all take place as an out door procedure.
"The RTU is expected to significantly improve management and patient convenience while actually reducing the unnecessary usage of RIG and Vaccine" said Dr. Hector Weerasinghe - Director NHSL, at the opening ceremony also attended by Dr. Omala Wimalaratne - Consultant Virologist & Vaccinologist of the Medical Research Institute.
Managing Director of ABC Pharma Mr. Adrian Basnayake said "ABC was happy to be sponsoring the furnishing and undertook to maintain the unit".
